With an 80 mm aperture and a precision FPL53 ED doublet lens, this telescope is carefully engineered to deliver sharp, high-contrast views. Whether you’re observing the Sun’s dynamic features or exploring deep-sky wonders, the LS80MT ensures an impressive experience across all observing modes.

Solar Observations in Hydrogen-Alpha

In its Hydrogen Alpha single-stack setup, the 80 mm Universal Telescope achieves a <0.65 Å bandpass. Using Lunt’s innovative Doppler True Tuning pressure system, users can finely adjust the view to reveal stunning solar activity, including prominences, filaments, and surface granulation.

B1200 Blocking Filter for use with the LS80MT
The B1200 blocking filter is the most economical choice and is recommended for those who only plan to do visual observations (no imaging) with the LS80MT. You will have the best results with the 12 mm blocking filter if your mount has auto-tracking. For manual tracking, we recommend the B1800, with it's wider field of view. The BF1200 will come in a 2" diagonal housing.

Nighttime Astronomy

The LS80MT isn’t limited to solar viewing. When the Sun sets, the telescope easily transitions into a powerful night-sky instrument. Simply remove the Hydrogen Alpha module with its pressure tuner from the optical tube assembly (OTA) and replace it with the focuser of your choice. This quick conversion unlocks detailed views of stars, nebulae, and planets, making it a versatile tool for both day and night astronomy.
