Freedom Find™ Technology
The EQ8 mount integrates auxiliary encoders on both the Right Ascension and Declination axes. This allows the system to maintain positional tracking, even if the clutches are disengaged and the telescope is rotated manually. Once the clutches are locked again, the mount resumes accurate alignment without requiring re-calibration. This function can be toggled on or off directly from the SynScan hand controller.
Permanent Periodic Error Correction (PPEC)
Built with an index on its RA worm gear, the EQ8 allows the motor controller to precisely track worm position. After completing a PEC training routine, the mount stores correction data permanently in the controller. This enables PEC activation at any time, enhancing tracking accuracy for astrophotography with short focal lengths. Because the correction data is stored permanently, retraining is not necessary in future sessions (as long as accurate polar alignment is maintained). Training can be carried out through either manual guiding or auto-guiding methods.
Batch Exposure Control
With a built-in SNAP port, the EQ8 can trigger DSLR camera shutters directly. Paired with the SynScan hand controller’s Camera Control function, astrophotographers can automate batch imaging sessions. Up to 8 groups of exposure-time and frame combinations can be configured, enabling streamlined long-exposure astrophotography.
Auto-Home Feature
Equipped with dual home position sensors, the EQ8 ensures consistent start-up alignment. When powered on and used with the SynScan hand controller, the mount automatically returns to the same home position, making setup and repeat sessions more efficient.
