Celestron Advanced VX 6" Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope
The Advanced VX (AVX) represents the benchmark for mid-level mounts, offering many of the same features found in Celestron’s higher-end German equatorial systems at a very accessible price point. Paired with a 6” Schmidt-Cassegrain optical tube, this setup is perfect for astrophotographers and visual observers who want serious performance in a portable package. The 6” SCT gathers 40% more light than a 5” model, giving brighter, more detailed views. Its Schmidt-Cassegrain design also eliminates chromatic aberration, making it an excellent starting point for entry-level astrophotography.
The Advanced VX mount combines portability with advanced features such as All-Star Polar Alignment, Celestron PWI telescope control software, and permanently programmable periodic error correction (PPEC), ensuring precise tracking for imaging and observing alike.
Whether you’re a seasoned imager taking this lightweight mount to a dark-sky site, or a beginner just starting out, the Advanced VX has the flexibility to grow with you and your astronomy journey.
Computerized German Equatorial Mount
The Advanced VX is Celestron’s most compact German equatorial mount, yet it delivers robust computerized GoTo capability. Once aligned, it automatically tracks celestial targets as they move across the sky. The mount includes connection ports for the hand control, an autoguider, and two AUX ports for additional accessories.
With the NexStar+ hand controller, you get direct access to all mount functions. Automatic slewing and intuitive menus make it easy for both beginners and experienced astronomers to master its use in just a few sessions. The system is supported by a 2” diameter steel tripod, providing extra stability with its wide stance–exceptional for a mount in this size class.
Payload Capacity
The Advanced VX offers a 30 lb payload capacity, more than enough for any compatible optical tube in the AVX line, plus common accessories like a camera, finder, Focus Motor, or StarSense AutoAlign. (Note: the counterweights are not included in the listed payload rating.) Its sturdy construction ensures steady performance even when fully equipped.
Dual Saddle Plate
Since 2019, Advanced VX mounts feature a dual saddle plate that supports both CG-5 and CGE-style dovetails. Switching between dovetail types is as simple as repositioning the hand knobs into the alternate set of mounting holes. This versatility means the AVX can host nearly any optical tube within its weight capacity. It supports Vixen-format dovetails (100mm or longer) but is not compatible with Losmandy D plates, regardless of manufacturer.
Software
Celestron PWI Telescope Control Software
Every AVX system includes Celestron PWI (CPWI), the most advanced telescope software suite Celestron has ever offered. Co-developed with PlaneWave Instruments, CPWI provides the same professional-grade tools found in observatory-class systems.
➜ Planetarium-style interface with PointXP advanced mount modeling for 100+ alignment points and unmatched pointing accuracy
➜ Observatory-friendly features: save/load alignment models and park your telescope
➜ Full ASCOM compatibility, allowing integration with third-party astronomy applications
Starry Night Software
Your purchase also includes a free download of Starry Night Special Edition software by Simulation Curriculum. This advanced program provides detailed celestial charts, object data, and powerful planning tools for observing and imaging sessions. It also enables telescope control via your computer for a seamless astronomy experience.

☀️ Solar Warning:
➠ Never look directly at the Sun with the naked eye or with an optic (unless you have the proper solar filter). Permanent and irreversible eye damage may result..
➠ Never use your optic to project an image of the Sun onto any surface. Internal heat build-up can damage the optic and any accessories attached to it.
➠ Never leave your optic unsupervised. Make sure an adult who is familiar with the correct operating procedures is with your optic at all times, especially when children are present.
