Celestron C90 MAK Spotting Scope
The Maksutov design is well-known for its portability, ease of use, and wide range of applications, making it a great option for both land-based and astronomical viewing. The C90 Mak delivers impressive optics with crisp, razor-sharp images across a broad field of view.
Maksutov-Cassegrain Optical Design
The MAK is a catadioptric spotting scope, meaning its construction combines both a lens and a mirror. Incoming light passes through the corrector lens, reflects off the primary mirror, and then onto a spherical secondary mirror before reaching the eyepiece. The result is bright, sharp visuals that are virtually free from chromatic aberration.

The Maksutov-Cassegrain design offers several advantages. Instead of a traditional secondary mirror, the MAK uses a reflective “secondary spot” applied directly to the inner surface of the corrector plate. This eliminates the need for frequent collimation. Additionally, the smaller secondary spot contributes to the MAK’s well-known, high-contrast image quality.
It’s important to note that due to the larger and heavier corrector plate, a Maksutov-Cassegrain spotting scope requires more time to cool down and adapt to the surrounding air temperature.

☀️ Solar Warning:
➠ Never look directly at the Sun with the naked eye or with an optic (unless you have the proper solar filter). Permanent and irreversible eye damage may result..
➠ Never use your optic to project an image of the Sun onto any surface. Internal heat build-up can damage the optic and any accessories attached to it.
➠ Never leave your optic unsupervised. Make sure an adult who is familiar with the correct operating procedures is with your optic at all times, especially when children are present.
