GSO 6? f/4 Imaging Newtonian Reflector Telescope Steel OTA (White)
6" f/4 Imaging Newtonian Telescope – Ideal for Astrophotography and Wide-Field Viewing with EXOS-II
This compact and budget-friendly 150mm (approx. 6") f/4 Newtonian OTA by GSO features fast optics, making it perfect for imaging large deep-sky targets with a DSLR, webcam, or astronomy camera. Lightweight and easy to manage for guiding, this Newtonian telescope arrives fully equipped with a 2" Crayford-style focuser, dual split-ring tube clamps, a straight-through 8x50 finder scope, and an 8" Vixen/Synta-compatible dovetail rail.
Benefits of the 6" f/4 Imaging Newtonian
- Fast f/4 diffraction-limited reflector system
- High reflectivity of 94% thanks to enhanced mirror coatings
- 63mm secondary mirror ensures strong field illumination
- Durable build-resists tilt or flex, even under heavier camera gear
- Upgraded Monorail focuser with 1:10 micro-focus for greater stability than standard Crayford
- Travel-friendly: only 58cm in length and 3.7kg in weigh
High-Speed, Precision Optics
The finely crafted 6" f/4 primary mirror is made from BK7 optical glass, known for its better thermal behavior compared to common soda lime float glass used in lower-cost scopes. The mirror has enhanced aluminum coatings for a reflectivity rating of at least 92%, along with a protective quartz (SiO?) overcoat. It's secured in a mirror cell with six external push-pull collimation screws for easy alignment. A center mark on the mirror simplifies collimation with tools like a laser collimator.
Pairing this scope with an APS-C sensor camera, such as a DSLR or ZWO ASI071MC-Pro, provides a generous 2.6° diagonal field of view-ideal for capturing expansive targets like the Andromeda Galaxy, the Orion Nebula, or the Horsehead Nebula.
Included in the Package
- 150mm f/4 Newtonian optical tube
- 2" linear-bearing Crayford focuser with 1.25" eyepiece adapter
- 6x30mm straight-through finder scope with bracket and mounting base
- Die-cast tube rings
- 8" Vixen-style dovetail mounting bar
- 2" extension tube (35mm)
- Front dust cap
- (Note: Manual not included yet-available soon)
Precision 2" Crayford Focuser with 1:10 Micro-Focus and Accessories
This Newtonian includes a 2" Crayford focuser with integrated 1:10 fine focus adjustment. It provides precise control, even when using heavy accessories like astrophotography cameras. With practice, users can reach a focusing precision of approximately 0.08 mm-ideal for high-resolution sensors.
Tube Construction and Mounting Rings
The OTA is made of rolled steel for excellent thermal consistency, reinforced with die-cast aluminum end rings for rigidity and protection. A dust cover is included. It ships with a pair of felt-lined, die-cast aluminum split rings that allow for tube rotation to easily reposition the focuser or finder. The bottom of each ring includes threaded mounting holes for the included Vixen-style dovetail plate, and an optional Losmandy-style plate if preferred. The top of each ring features two M6x25mm threaded holes spaced 7.5" apart, enabling the attachment of additional accessories such as a guide scope.
Finished in a glossy white exterior and a matte black interior for improved contrast and reduced reflections, the OTA measures 7" in diameter (7.2" with end rings), 21.75" in length, and extends past the focuser to act as a light shield and enhance image clarity.
