WILLIAM OPTICS REDCAT 71 WIFD
William Optics RedCat 71 WIFD – Internal Focusing for Maximum Stability
The RedCat 71 WIFD is the latest evolution in the CAT series of Petzval refractors, now equipped with William Optics’ innovative internal focusing system. Designed with astrophotographers in mind, this new internal focuser makes it easy to install autofocus motors like the ZWO EAF—no bulky external belt systems required.
Enhanced Optics with New WIFD Precision
While maintaining the high-quality Petzval optical design of its predecessor, the RedCat 71 WIFD introduces a refined focus system that increases precision, improves stability, and simplifies overall use. This makes it a powerful tool for imaging and an excellent match for modern astrophotography setups.
Engineered for Heavy Imaging Gear
Created to support the weight of today’s larger, cooled imaging cameras and accessories, the WIFD design integrates the focuser within the main optical tube. By eliminating an external drawtube, it minimizes mechanical flex and tilt, while also reducing vignetting for sharper, more reliable images.
Advanced Rack-and-Pinion Focus Mechanism
The focuser uses a zero image-shift rack and pinion system that allows for ultra-fine adjustments. A clear, external graduated scale shows your exact focus position. The internal lens cell is sealed and held in perfect alignment, and the system is fully ready for ZWO EAF motor installation—no adapters or modifications required.
Fast Optics for Wide-Field Imaging
With a focal length of 350?mm and a fast f/4.9 focal ratio, the RedCat 71 WIFD is ideal for capturing expansive deep-sky targets like the Rosette Nebula, Pleiades, and Eta Carina. Its compact, lightweight design also makes it a great choice for use as a high-performance wildlife telephoto lens.
Premium Optics and Imaging Flexibility
The RedCat 71 WIFD features a four-element Petzval optical layout with FPL?53 synthetic fluorite glass, providing exceptional color correction and sharp stars across a 45?mm full-frame image circle. A durable CNC-machined handle bar includes a finder-style saddle for mounting a guide scope or accessories with ease.
Versatile Mounting and Filter Support
This telescope includes M68 × 1, M54 × 0.75, and M48 × 0.75 thread options, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of imaging setups. The M48 adapter is internally threaded to accept standard 2" filters, allowing for easy integration of light pollution or narrowband filters into your imaging train.
Important Note on the Tension Screw
If you're using a motorized focuser, avoid over-tightening the tension screw. Think of it like driving with both the accelerator and brake pressed—it could cause damage. Keeping the tension screw properly adjusted helps protect your focuser’s performance.
